Cameron University Student Center

july 2005 | higher education | lawton, ok

AIP teamed with Perkins+Will for the design of Cameron Village, the new apartment housing complex on the Cameron University campus. The complex provides an attractive and affordable housing alternative for accommodating 242 students in three buildings, which are positioned around a centrally located Learning Center. There are two configurations of apartment suites available. Social lounges, study rooms & laundry facilities provide necessary student life amenities.

Designed as the heart of the residential community, the Learning Center includes a classroom, seminar room, computer room, and a dynamic octagonal library. An open two-story great room with a central fireplace provides large screen viewing and comfortable seating for social interaction.

The architectural character of the complex takes its cue from the campus context. The red brick exterior with cast stone accents at the entrances, windowsills, lintels and cornices frame the openings in a celebratory way. Arched openings called ‘sally-ports’ create inviting and functional covered entrances.
