The Kay County Criminal Justice Center was commissioned by the Kay County Justice Facilities Authority in response to an order by the State Jail Inspector to correct code violations and address over crowding in the existing jail. AIP provided promotional services for the tax referendum by preparing schematic floor plans and renderings and presenting them to community groups across the county. Voters approved a 2/3% tax increase to fund and operate the new jail. The 62,000 square foot facility consists of two large housing pods that contain 288 beds, the facility can house up to 320 inmates under extreme conditions. The detention center is also home to the Kay County Sheriff’s Office. The facility includes a kitchen and laundry capable of supporting over 700 inmates and features a video visitation system that allows inmates to conduct visits without leaving their secure pod
